I've been tire shopping lately for my Liberty Renegade, I've got a set of mall crawler's on there now that I purchased not long before I lifted it, so now I can fit much bigger tires under it, and I want something with a more aggressive tread pattern.
The size I'm shopping for is 265/70-16, I don't really see the need for an LT since they are going on a Jeep Liberty, but if the price is right I won't walk away from LT's either, so mainly shopping for "P" 265/70-16's...I also plan to get 5 so I have a matching spare, and can rotate the spare with the other 4.
So far I've looked at General, Cooper, Mastercraft, Destiny, and Goodyear.
I've gotten prices on the tires available, and was dissapointed to learn that both General and Mastercraft no longer make a mud terrain tire as both were not only inexpensive, but also had fairly good reviews.
Looks like I'll be getting All Terrains since all other Mud Terrains are well out of my price range. The Cooper Discoverer S/T's are coming in at $228.00 per tire mounted & balanced, the Mastercraft Courser C/T at $210.00, and the General Grabber AT2's at $180.00....
I'm leaning towards the AT2's for a couple reasons, the tire shop that deals in General tires is right across the street from one of our Fire Stations, this adds to the convienience factor, he cuts us a deal on tires, this shop does my front end allignments, and I know the guys there pretty good.
The General Grabber AT2 gets mixed reviews on the other two Jeep discussion boards I frequent, some have them and love them, others think they're crap. The tires I have on now are the Grabber HTS, got 10,000 miles on them and they still look brand new with well over 85% + tread on them. They will obviously go on Craigslist when they come off the Jeep.
So what's the view with this group on the General Grabber AT2 tire....good, bad or ugly.....?
BTW.....I'd go for the New compition Grabber, but it doesn't come in a size that'll fit my Liberty, if it did then I'd just get 4 for now, and pick up a spare later.....
