Quick Update, instead of an XJ, my wife decided on a 96 limited ZJ we found locally for only $2500. the interior is like new. It was a third vehical so not that many miles, only 122k. needed a tune up, and a few other small things, but in pretty good conditions.

in my mind I think it's obvious that the Compass, the Patriot, and Commander were attempts to pull non-offroad people to the brand, and expand the Jeep brand further than it should. I'm not a fan of the Compass or the Patriot, an Anemic little car with a Jeep badge that wouldn't make it up...
