I have a 98 Jeep Grand Cherokee, its a 4.0 v6, no idea what ZJ or WJ is for a Jeep really. Ima Noob

My Jeep has problems with like all the doors now it seems. The front passenger door the window wont go anymore or down. Right now its stuck 1/4 of the way down and i really wish i could get this back up so it doesnt rain inside or someone breaks into my car..

How can i fix this ?? When i hit the switch i hear a click but nothing happens. Randomly today it worked for like 20 seconds then it stopped working again.

The back window on the back door wont open anymore. I push the button outside and nothing.. Also the back door wont stay up anymore, i have to put a broom on the door and bumper to keep it up. The back passenger door wont lock with the powerlocks on the keys or inside. I have to lock it manually.

Also it seems the window lock button doesnt work anymore either. If i push it in the windows still go up and down. I noticed whe ni push that in i hear that same click the window on the passenger side makes when i try to make it go up or down..

I have no money to fix this, and my last resort is to tape the window... Is there something i can do maybe to fix this ? Im pretty good with tools and stuff, i just dont know much about cars. My guess is if the window worked today, then the motar and stuff seem to be fine, but maybe there is a lose wire or something ?

Asside from that the Jeep has 156k Miles, and runs great. Cept for a little rattle like squeak i hear on the driver side on occasion

Front Passenger window sounds like a motor, and yes if they get wet they will work sometimes and then quit and then work again and then quit.. my mirror and lock switch did that to me on my Jeep Liberty. The Window Lock switch sounds bad but could be a ground issue there or possibly a fuse? (don't know about that one just guessing) Got a bad lock motor, don't know what you mean about the back window not pushing out, and uh the door sounds like it is loose from the frame...dude wow... I love Grand Cherokees but this one sounds like a pain in the butt.. have you had a lot of issues with it?

Lose from the frame ? The door the little air thingy's that hold the door up just dont hold it up anymore like there is no airpressure.. So the back door just goes down slowely instead of staying up.. How did you manage to conclude the door was lose on the frame lol. ?

all my switches randomally dont work, sometimes you just have to use the window switch on the door itself, i figure its from mud getting in there, even though it did it a little bit before i got it. Do what i did, take the regulator out and just pull the window up by hand and let it down by hand. jk dont.

Window Motors. Easy fix. Make sure you have you're power and ground at the switch itself. Then make sure you have the power and ground at the connector for the motor.

My driver's window was the only one that worked on my ZJ when I got it. Being a ex automotive tech, I knew what the problems was. It is a very common issue on these.

Sorry for the delay... Life has happened in the past 24 hours. Wifes truck is misbehaving, middle child put a ball through the front window, etc...

So it to break it down, it looks like you have 4 problems...
1. power windows aren't working
2. power window lock isn't working
3. lift gate won't stay open
4. latch wont release on the rear glass

Luckily none of these are that difficult, and hoepfully not that expensive to repair.

Starting with the easiest first... #3 The rear lift gate is held up by gas pressurized shocks, they just need to be replaced. You should be able to pick up the part at any jeep dealership (most expensive), NAPA (more expensive, but good warranty), or pep-boys/autozone/etc...
The NAPA part # is Left side - BK 8195551 and Right side - BK 8195552. They run $25.50 each. Easily relaced, 2 bolts (1 top and 1 bottom) for each one.

Next easiest #4. Either your latch is fummed up from dust, dirt, and crud over the past 12 years, or a cable or spring has broke. Remove the rear panel from the lift gate. It's held on by a couple of screws on the top and bottom (5 or 6 IIRC), then use a trim tool of flat head screwdiver to pop the plasic trim from the door, go slow, so you don't brake any clips.

after the plastic trim is removed, inspect for obvious damage (i.e. a broke cable, or spring). If all looks fine, use any contact cleaner and liberally spray the latch mechanism to completely clean the moving parts. Then spray it down with PB Blaster and begin to cycle the handle to release the window. Shouldn't take more than a few minutes. After it finally releases, spray with contact cleaner again, and then finally with a silcone lubricant to keep it in good working order. Reassemble the door panel and your done.

Lastly #1 and 2 are probably related. Since it is intermitent I think it is most likely that you have a broken or frayed wire(s) in the harness. Happens quite frequently on the Older ZJ's. Remove the drivers side door panel. Couple of screws again, believe most are hidden under little plastic covers. IIRC one behind the door handle and another in the arm rest. (been a while since I was in a ZJ, sorry). THen slowly pop off the panel like you did with the lifgate panel, held on by push clips. once you have it off. Inspect the wireing harness espcially near the front of the door for loose, kinked, broken, or frayed wires. You may have wiggle and play with them a little to find the right ones. once they are located you just have to repair that section of wiring. Easiest (redneck) way would be a trip to radio shack for some connectors and wire cutters (get one that will allow you to cut, strip and crimp). Then cut the sire where it is bad, strip the rubber away on both ends, and crimp them back to gether with a connector and seal with electrical tape. If you have access to a soldering gun, and heat shrink there is a better way to do it, but not sure if you do.

Hope that all this helps and fixes your issues.

Well I got it fixed I bought the motor at pep boys for $95 and had jeep technition on his off hours install it for $60 which is way cheaper then the $400 I was quoted. I'm glad It was the motor and not the regulator, I had to guess between the 2 beforei bought the part. Aparently even tho pep boys said the motor was for a 98 jeep the wires had to be redone. Like cut and rewired to work on my door... Whatever it sounds like the other ones and works ao that's all that matters I guess.

I just hope that the rewiring he did on the motor doesn't screw something else up lol.

2004 grand cherokee power window problem

Good day !! The first thing i checked were all the fuses, under the dash and in the distribution box under the hood. I also took the door panel off and checked the motor and its good.i also went to a few auto wreckers and tried the master control switches they had and they did not provide any power.so i bought an ohm meter and checked the connection to the master switch and connector with the key on. There are four prongs on the switch for the connector. One side gave a good signal and the other set of prongs did not give anything, is that normal? Also, in my 2004 jeep manual it states that there 2 circuit breakers that are for the power win dows and their no where to be found neither in distribution box nor the fuse box under the dash? Please help me! Thanks
