finally...i have always wanted a jeep and two days ago i finally got waht i wanted. Picked up an 05 liberty limited fully loaded with only 19,500 miles for $12,800! wanted to get a new one but could not turn this beauty down. Now all i need to know is what are some of the best budget friendly ways to make it more "trail ready" than it is stock.

Also want to know how it does stock in the snow and mud before the winter comes. i have a 1/2 mile drive way out in the country that is always getting 8+ inches of snow in winter and want to know if there is anything that i need to do to help insure i wont get stuck as much this year. any help will do.

Well i would guess i am in the same boat as you ! Live out in the middle of the sticks where 4 wheel drive is necessary or you wont leave the house in the winter . Last year i had some Dayton Timberline AT Commercials On my Truck and they did awesome in the mud and in the snow / ice only thing with them is they cost 170$ a tire and was just a little Expensive drove them for 4 months with some steal in them and they did not lose air or bother those tires in any way . Since my Libby takes smaller tires i might look into them for her as well being smaller tire = Cheaper ... Don`t really care what people say they where dang good tires .

Welcome to the forum Dru and congrats on your jeep.

What size tires are on your Ltd? Mine is a 05 Ltd and came with 235/65/17. A PIA size as a 16" rim has more available A/T tire sizes. Anyway, Hercules Terra-Trac A/T comes in that size and also Firestone Destination AT. Both are good in snow/mud. There are others but not sure if they come in that size.

You don't need a lift kit if all you want is 1", you can get that out of a clevis lift. Go to the Lost, or JKJ websites for information on how to do a clevis lift youself....it's pretty easy.

If you are on a tight budget, Daystar offers spacer lifts pretty cheap, 1.5" up to 2.5", they are not real popular among the purists on many of these forums, but I installed the 2.5" lift on my '05 Renegade, and I'm happy with it.

Don't know too much about those 17" rims and the tire available for it since I have 16's, but I'm about to pull the hook on a set of 5 Goodyear Duratracs in 245/75-16, they do offer sizes in 17", so you might find something to fit your KJ at stock height.

One other thing, if you plan to go off road in your new ride, look up and check to see if it came with skid plates, if not you might want to get some first......good luck and congrats.....
