I've been tire shopping lately for my Liberty Renegade, I've got a set of mall crawler's on there now that I purchased not long before I lifted it, so now I can fit much bigger tires under it, and I want something with a more aggressive tread pattern.
The size I'm shopping for is 265/70-16, I don't really see the need for an LT since they are going on a Jeep Liberty, but if the price is right I won't walk away from LT's either, so mainly shopping for "P" 265/70-16's...I also plan to get 5 so I have a matching spare, and can rotate the spare with the other 4.

So far I've looked at General, Cooper, Mastercraft, Destiny, and Goodyear.
I've gotten prices on the tires available, and was dissapointed to learn that both General and Mastercraft no longer make a mud terrain tire as both were not only inexpensive, but also had fairly good reviews.

Looks like I'll be getting All Terrains since all other Mud Terrains are well out of my price range. The Cooper Discoverer S/T's are coming in at $228.00 per tire mounted & balanced, the Mastercraft Courser C/T at $210.00, and the General Grabber AT2's at $180.00....

I'm leaning towards the AT2's for a couple reasons, the tire shop that deals in General tires is right across the street from one of our Fire Stations, this adds to the convienience factor, he cuts us a deal on tires, this shop does my front end allignments, and I know the guys there pretty good.
The General Grabber AT2 gets mixed reviews on the other two Jeep discussion boards I frequent, some have them and love them, others think they're crap. The tires I have on now are the Grabber HTS, got 10,000 miles on them and they still look brand new with well over 85% + tread on them. They will obviously go on Craigslist when they come off the Jeep.

So what's the view with this group on the General Grabber AT2 tire....good, bad or ugly.....?

BTW.....I'd go for the New compition Grabber, but it doesn't come in a size that'll fit my Liberty, if it did then I'd just get 4 for now, and pick up a spare later.....

Surf, the AT2's are a pretty good tire and cheaper from the others that you picked. They should work fine on the beach, or the pine barrens down there and be good on the road.

Otherwise see if Duratrac makes the right size for you since you are lifted, and at least price them out of curiousity. My Son has them on the wrangler and I have driven them both on and off-road and they are good. They will be more money though.

Dave, I think the Duratrac's come in 245/75-16, but not 265/70-16...

I'm not adversed to going with a 245/75, but would prefer the 265/70 since most my off roading is on the beach, and wider is better on that sugar sand.
I'll revisit that tire, and see what they got and for how much, again if it's a really good tire that won't let me down I'd be willing to just get 4 to start with, then get the 5th when the money is there.....

After looking at & pricing a lot of tires, plus considering what my real needs are in an off road + daily driver tire, I've narrowed my choices down to 2....
Cooper Discoverer S/T...
General Grabber AT2...

Thought about compromising by going to a 245/75-16 since there's a lot more choices, but decided to stick with my first choice and go with the slightly wider 265/70-16.

I think either of these tires will suit my needs, last a long time, and perform well on the beach where I do most of my 4-wheeling....

Now I just have to wait for the money. I will also be listing the tires I have now on Craigslist, 4 General Grabber HTS with approx 10,000 miles on them, 235/70-16, an honest 85% tread, and no sidewall scuffs. They were rotated front to back at 5,000 miles, and I keep an even 35 psi in all 4....

What I might do is get 4 Cooper S/T's, then with the money I get for the old tires buy a 5th for my spare, if I go for the General Grabbers I should be able to get all 5 at once and be done with it.....

"OK"....like a woman arranging furniture, I have once again changed my mind.....:pp:

The kid across the street from me just got a set of Goodyear Duratracs on his Cherokee, I got a real close look at these tires, and this kid can't say enough good things about them. He then showed me a cell phone video of him climbing a dirt hill with his old tires...slipping and sliding all over the place. Then he showed me another video of him taking on the same hill with the Duratracs...crawled right up without breaking ground.....

The only reason I turned my back on these tires in the first place was the fact they're not available in 265/70-16, so I will compromise after all, and get a set of the Goodyear Duratracs in 245/75-16.
Got a real good price on them from a Goodyear direct dealer about 20 miles away....$171.00 + tax mounted & balanced....

As soon as the money becomes available, I'll be calling this guy to order 5 of them......and I can't wait.....
